Local farmer promotes eco-friendly agriculture in Sinhua

Mr. Lin lives in Sinhua, Tainan who is a local farmer and he uses Enzyme to grow his plants and crops. He believes this is an environmental-friendly way to benefit both the plants and the planet. Using the natural way to transform sugar, it can reduce the cost of planting and at the same time, achieve the goal of natural growing. He insists on letting the land breathe, so the land can produce better quality food for people.


Taiwanese Red Quinoa(Chenopodium formosanum)is a kind of Chenopodium plants which is original in Taiwan. In general, people call it Red Quinoa and it received its official name Taiwanese red Quinoa in December, 2008. It is widely used for indigenous people in Taiwan for more than hundreds of years.  It is a year-round herbaceous plants with strong root and can stand with the drought. Its grains are also nicknamed "ruby" in culinary world and Taiwanese red quinoa's flower is like a rainbow with many different possible colours. The colour after removing the shell is light brown.


The protein in red quinoa is about 14% which is double than rice; its fibre also has 14% which is triple than oat and seven times more than sweet potatoes. In terms of mineral, the calcium is especially high(2,523 ppm), which is 42 times more than rice and 23 times more than oat. Furthermore, the iron and zinc is 11 times and 8 times more than sweet potatoes. On the other hand, red quinoa contains selenium and Germanium, and also other nine kinds of amino acid that the human body cannot produce by itself, for example, lysine which has five times more than the rice. Lysine can help human body to absorb the calcium and help the formation of collagen, anti-bacteria,  hormone and enzyme. Other antioxidant substances like Betacyanins,Betaxanthins and Flavonoids are also in it. Red Quinoa is useful for body inflammation.
